STAFF FROM ACROSS THE EKC GROUP SHOWED OFF THEIR SKILLS, WINNING FOUR CATEGORIES IN THIS YEAR’S KENT TEACHER AWARDS.
This year’s awards, which were sponsored by Kent Further Education, included categories for technical and vocational tutors and assessors as well as higher education tutors. Colleagues from around the Group beat back fierce competition, with more than 90 nominations being made across the three categories.
Clive Soord (Canterbury College), Julie Coyle (Dover Technical College), Zak Waters (Folkestone College) and Tim Jackson (Broadstairs College) took home trophies for wins in the District Awards for each of the categories.
Clive Soord also won a further prestigious prize for his work to inspire the next generation of artists; The Gulbenkian Theatre Arts Award for Inspiring Creativity and Innovation.
Group Principal and Chief Executive, EKC Group, Graham Razey said: “I’d like to offer my congratulations to each of this year’s winners, who do an amazing job inspiring all of our students across EKC Group. The fact that so many of our tutors and assessors were nominated and won in this year’s awards speaks volumes about the brilliant work they do every day. Well done to all of you.”
The awards were presented at a glitzy ceremony held at the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes hotel on Friday 18 May. The event, organised annually by the KM Charity Team, celebrates excellence and achievement in teaching. This year’s awards were co-hosted by Simon Dolby, Chief Executive of the KM Charity Team, and Nicola Everett, News Editor for kmfm.
Mr Dolby said: “Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination telling us all about the standout individuals working in Kent schools and colleges today.
“You have done a great service to many hard-working, talented, yet extremely humble people, who are shaping the hearts and minds of future generations. These individuals are thrilled that their efforts are appreciated; whether they were one of the 54 winners, or one of the hundreds of recipients of highly commended letters.”
