Group deliver social action

Staff and students from across EKC Group were out in force to take part in the group’s second annual community week.

The week sees all members of the Group’s colleges and business units delivering social action projects within the communities they serve. A sector leading initiative, the projects the students engage in often benefit their studies indirectly, as they are given the opportunity to develop the skills they learn during their study programmes through the social action. This year’s Community Week saw students take place in a wide range of projects which are all set to directly impact positively on members of the public and community organisations.

Students from Broadstairs College received coverage for their work to refurbish a historic community fountain in Ramsgate, while students continued a partnership regeneration project in Folkestone’s Guildhall Street. Students from Dover College continued to develop the work they’re doing with community organisation Dover smART, while students in Sheppey worked with a local care home, receiving fantastic accolades from residents. Students from Canterbury took part in a wide range of projects, helping a tremendous number of community organisations with a variety of separate actions. Staff got involved too, with curriculum and corporate teams volunteering their time to help a range of third sector groups.

Group Principal and Chief Executive, Graham Razey said: “I was extremely proud to see the incredible social action projects taking place across the Group for our second Community Week this academic year. There was a wealth of fantastic work being delivered at each of our Colleges, with some fantastic learning experiences for staff and students alike.

“As a Group, we have now surpassed 100,000 hours of social action delivered by our staff and students, with more than 300 projects being undertaken in that time. It’s fantastic news for not only the communities we serve, but also our students, who get a tremendous number of benefits from engaging in social action.”
