EKC Group is immensely proud to announce the recent success of eight students across four subject and three colleges.

The pupils from Broadstairs, Canterbury and Folkestone College’s will be heading to the NEC in Birmingham on Wednesday 14 November, to compete against finalists from across the country in the WorldSkills UK National finals. With the number of participants being cut from over 15,000, to just 600, our seven finalists are part of less than four percent of the original applicants.

With Broadstairs College having five catering students representing them from the 14 to the 17 of November, preparation work is fully underway. For their lecturer Rob Allsworth, it’s his fourth year at WorldSkills UK and these five make up part of his 11 students that have qualified under his tuition. WorldSkills veteran Rob recently said “It’s not easy, the students are put through their paces with 15 hours of competition across a two and a half day period” showing just how capable all EKC Groups finalists are.

Ayesha Gyimah and Michael Granger will be representing Folkestone College this week in their subjects of Painting and Decorating and plastering respectively. Ayesha, has already taken a win in the high profile Johnstons Trade 2018 Young Painter of the Year South East regional competition, and is “excited” to represent the college at WorldSkills UK this year.

Canterbury College’s entrant Jake Jones, who is currently studying the level 3 extended diploma in Graphic Design and Illustration, and his lecturer Rob Black are both looking forward to the event. Rob recently said “The competition requires high levels of preparation and a good overall knowledge of a diverse subjects.”
