Young Poets Explore the Hidden Voices of Thanet Artists

A new exhibition by The Margate School sees young poets from our Canterbury College explore the thoughts, feelings, processes and artworks of local unknown artists.

The Exhibition, titled ‘Show Me’, includes original pieces of poetry from BTEC Level 3 Creative Writing and Journalism students Alex Bragg, Eloise Hope and Josh Gibson, as well as transcripts and recordings of conversations with Thanet creatives.

‘Show Me’ offers a unique insight into the hidden world of local artists, and explores the different interpretations and understandings of creative processes from the perspectives of the artists themselves, and the students who created their poems in response to conversations they heard.

“My favourite part of the project was listening to the passionate discussion from these experienced artists. It really gave me an insight into the natural structure of conversation, which I will take forward when writing in future,” commented Josh, one of the students invited to work on the project.

They continued: “Taking part in the Exhibition has been a positive experience, as not only was it my first opportunity to showcase my writing professionally, but I also got to experience the degree of time management and presentation that will be expected from my future employers.”

‘Show Me’ is part of the ‘Hidden Voices’ strand of The Margate School’s Arts Council England funded ‘Art-Line for Margate’ project. The Exhibition is available to view online.
