Royal Navy Make Waves in College Kitchen

Public Services students from EKC Group’s Canterbury College joined Royal Navy Chefs for a culinary masterclass in the College’s kitchens on Tuesday 25 February.

Three personnel from the Navy’s Catering Division demonstrated their culinary expertise, showing the students how they prepare and cook well-known dishes like paella for hundreds of sailors and Royal Marines on land and at sea.

The students had the opportunity to help prepare the dishes, as well as ask the sea-going Chefs questions about day-to-day life and careers in the Royal Navy.

Lecturer in Uniformed Public Services at the College, Howard Gilbert, commented, “It’s always good to see serving military personnel in Canterbury College. The three Royal Navy Chefs enthusiastically recalled some of their best moments as they outlined their career pathways which had brought them to their current appointments as well as the opportunities they had taken for travel and sports in their journey.”

Howard added, “Many of our students have previously shown an interest in joining the Royal Navy, so being able to talk with serving sailors showed them the variety of work they do and the range of opportunities available to them.”
