EKC Group Celebrates GCSE Achievement Rates

EKC Group is celebrating after it was revealed that its GCSE achievement rates top the national averages for General Further Education colleges.

The Group – which is a family of six Colleges, and three regional Business Units – accomplished an overall achievement rate of 82.7 per cent across all GCSE subjects taught at its Colleges, surpassing the national average of 82.4 per cent. An excellent 28.6 per cent of the Group’s 2,700 GCSE students achieved top grades of 9-4, 6.7 per cent above the national average.

Students aged over 19 studying GCSE English were among some of the highest achievers, with 42.5 per cent awarded 9-4 grades. Elsewhere, the achievement rates for students aged 16 to 19 studying GCSE Mathematics were almost double the national average, with 27.8 per cent securing the prized 9-4 grades, compared to just 15.3 per cent nationally.

Graham Razey, EKC Group’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We were really proud of all of our students when we celebrated these results back in August of last year, and now that we have the national comparators, we have a second reason to be incredibly pleased with our performance across the Group.

“To achieve 6.7 per cent above the national average for 9-4 grades is absolutely excellent, and testament to the innovative and engaging curriculum delivery from all of the staff members who taught these courses. It is particularly pleasing to see our students get almost double the national average in GCSE maths given that we are a Centre for Excellence in mathematics and have implemented a range of new techniques.”
