EKC Group’s HR and Teacher Academy Team get creative for local community group

EKC Group’s Human Resources and Teacher Academy Services got arty when they redecorated Touchbase Care’s office and studio space as part of their Community Week activities.

Community Week – which takes place twice a year – sees staff and students from the Group’s family of five Colleges and two Business Units work on projects that benefit the communities we serve. This year the HR Team and Teacher Academy staff helped brighten up the working environment for members of Touchbase Care.

The Folkestone based charity organisation works to improve the quality of life of people living with disabilities. Its work makes a significant difference to those who need it most, with support given in a range of areas including advice and training, the development of life skills such as cooking, and arts and performing skills.

Simon Bigrigg, Head of the Teacher Academy, was part of the team that carried out the redecorating efforts in Folkestone.

He said: “As well as being good fun and useful exercise, it was a really rewarding day as we got to complete the task within the time, and we were able to meet the people who will be benefitting from the newly decorated rooms.”

“Hopefully this will be an ongoing relationship that we can revisit as there are many other rooms that need a bit of a spruce up.”

Deputy centre manager, Holly Smith, said: “We are really grateful to the team from EKC Group for their time and effort for helping us to freshen up room 16. We are a small team and a very busy centre which means these jobs often get pushed to the back of the to-do list.

“The room is now able to be used by our Participate project we can’t wait for the team to come back and help again on their next volunteer day.”
