Females in the Construction Industry

We're looking at females in the Construction industry.

Women make up around 14% of construction industry, but we want to ensure this number rises by showing women the pathway to construction jobs.

There are endless rewards and benefits, room for progression and skills development, so girls - it's definitely an industry worth looking into.

How do I get into the Construction industry?

There are so many ways to start your career in construction: you could achieve a qualification at College, complete an apprenticeship, become a trainee, work experience or a university degree!

What trades are there?

There are so many different trades to choose from within the Construction industry which all require different skills and knowledge, including: Carpentry, Tiling, Bricklaying, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, Landscaping, Plastering, Welding, Roofing, Joining.

However, not all construction jobs are on the tools, there are a range of job roles that people don't really see: Project Manager, Surveyor, Health & Safety, Site Manager, Architect, etc.

How do I choose the right pathway for me?

We know it can be difficult to decide which career you want, that's why at Sheppey College, we offer a Multi Trade course which includes aspects of all trades and health and safety. Giving you a sample of each trade will allow you to see which you prefer and want to pursue further.
