Meet the Staff

Our dedicated staff bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the job. We sat down with them this week to get to know them a little more in our latest blog:

Stephen Butcher

Steve is the acting Head of Centre at the EKC Plumbing and Electrical Training Centre and has been teaching at EKC for the last three years, recently moving from teaching at Dover Technical College to take on a new challenge in leadership.

Preceding this, Steve successfully set up and managed his own plumbing and heating business spanning the south and south-east Kent area for several years.

Outside of the centre, Steve enjoys playing a variety of sports, plus good food, drink and company!

Steve Dyos

Steve was appointed AM2 Centre Manager earlier this year and serves as the primary assessor of the AM2 end-point assessment for electricians.

Following a career-change, Steve became a qualified electrician and worked in both domestic and commercial settings. Some of his career highlights include working on projects for Cross Rail, Chatham Historical Dock Yard and Great Ormond Street Hospital as on-site electrical supervisor.

Steve has since been teaching for the last 3 years, delivering various short courses.

Outside of work, Steve loves to surf and bodyboard in Cornwall and is an avid Rugby Union fan!

Jermaine Carby

Jermaine is the programme director of Electrical at the centre, and has been teaching for just over 4 years.

Prior to working with the EKC Group, Jermaine was a commercial electrical supervisor, working on many iconic London landmarks such as the Natural History Museum, the Walkie-Talkie Tower, and Fortum & Mason. Jermaine decided to pursue a teaching career to be able to spend more time with his family.

In his spare time, Jermaine likes to camp and go shark cage diving!

Peter teaches our Plumbing courses are the training centre.

After leaving school, Peter completed a 4-year apprenticeship in pipefitting and welding, going on to work on many building sites in London.

With the experience under his belt, Peter then went on to run his own heating and plumbing business for over 12 years, completing both domestic and commercial gas courses, and working in the commercial sector for 8 years before turning to teaching the next generation of tradesman.

Peter has an affinity for fishing and enjoys working on his car outside of work.
