An interview with our Art and Design Programme Director

Hi Gavin, please can you go ahead and introduce yourself?

Hi, my name is Gav and I am the Programme Director and lecturer for Art and Design at Dover Technical College.

Can you tell us a little more about your role?

My role includes building and delivering the course content for the Art and Design Diploma Level 2 and the Applied Extended Diploma Level 3. I have been in this role for just over a year, having taught Computing at the college before moving into this role.

You recently won a staff award. Which award did you win and how did you feel about winning it?

I won the award for positivity.  These awards are voted on by students, which makes winning one very special. I was very happy to receive the award although many of my colleagues deserve it as well.  It's nice to be acknowledged for the hard work we put in.

What did you do before you started working at Dover Technical College?

Before I started work at Dover Technical College I worked in the industry of Graphic design in Spain as a lead designer. On my return to the UK, I worked within IT and employability.

Do you still work within the industry now?

In my spare time, I volunteer for a couple of organisations, designing flyers and website material.

What's the best thing about working at the college?

I would say, the best thing about working at Dover Technical College, has to be my colleagues, as they are friendly and approachable.

How would you describe yourself?

A very upbeat person who wants to give the very best to my students. I believe this is done best in a fun working environment.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?

"Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today." (Benjamin Franklin)
